GARY BOREN

A graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Boren began his securities career in 1963 with Merrill Lynch, serving retail clients. From 1973 to 1978 he was Vice President of First Main Capital Corporation, dealing exclusively in mergers & acquisitions. He served as Vice President Corporate Finance with Stonegate Securities, Inc. from 1978-1985 and Vice President Corporate Finance with William K. Woodruff & Company from 1985 to 1988. From 1989 until the present Boren has been an independent financial consultant.
While remaining active as a business consultant, Boren began serving as Free Throw Shooting Coach for Coach Don Nelson and the Golden State Warriors in 1994. After two years with the Warriors and one with the New York Knicks, he followed Nelson to the Dallas Mavericks, and the 2016-17 season was his 20th and final year with the 2011 NBA Champions. He was Free Throw Coach for USA “Dream Team II”, Gold Medal winners at the World Championship of Basketball in 1994, and shooting coach for the U.S. Women’s National Wheelchair team, Bronze Medal winners at the Atlanta Paralympic Games in 1996.
While continuing to serve the Mavericks, he also served as Shooting Coach for Coach Mike Dunleavy and the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2003-04, 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons. He has given shooting clinics for the coaching staffs at over 50 Division I Colleges, as well as for the Head Coach of over 10 foreign National Teams. Boren has been a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches for 19 years.
Since 2014, Coach Boren has been honored to serve as National Marketing Director for Wooden’s Wisdom, a weekly personal development email program that details the basketball and timeless life lesson teachings of the late Hall of Fame Coach John Wooden.
